Vicki Joy McClure

Wife, Mother, Grandmother.
Interfaith Minister.
Board-certified Chaplain.
Spiritual Director.

My upbringing was in the Baptist tradition; my seminary training was in spiritual formation at an Episcopal seminary; and then I pursued education at another seminary for interfaith experience and learning in all the major world traditions. I provide spiritual direction to people of all faiths and/or those who are religiously unaffiliated but seeking something More.

My own teacher and friend is Jesus, primarily because his focus is on relationship: with each other and with his (and our) Source as shown in creation, inclusion, forgiveness, compassion, and challenge to those who behave otherwise.

I enjoy sitting with and working together with people who are motivated to grow in self-inquiry and awareness — anyone who is seeking meaning. Because I am ordained as an interfaith minister and am a retired board certified healthcare chaplain, I have experience in monitoring the spiritual self-care needs specific to those involved with healthcare and/or are called to ministry. I also specialize in accompanying those who are drawn to experience transformation through the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises.

After ten years as Chaplain and Supervisor of Spiritual Care at a local hospital, I retired in December of 2015 to spend time with family, in prayer and study, and to focus on my practice in spiritual direction. Since then, I've had a thriving practice in spiritual direction informed by Ignatian spirituality and practices. I find great fulfillment in companioning seekers in their hunger for deeper relationship with the Divine.

My experiences in the hospital, working with patients, families, and staff opened me to the world of life-emergencies; acute and chronic illnesses, death and dying issues, and the stresses that caregivers often encounter.

Sometimes, words aren’t able to communicate feelings and the directee needs presence in other ways. I have attained master level of a Japanese energy-balancing technique, Reiki healing touch therapy, which can be helpful in such times.

Dreamwork also is sometimes a part of my practice. I trained with renowned dreamworker, Jeremy Taylor, and enjoy considering dreams as a service our body provides to us — they can unload material we don’t need, and/or teach us something we don’t consciously know and that will heal us if we can come to understand their meanings.

I speak regularly to groups in churches and retreats on the method of Christian meditation called centering prayer and my experiences with transformation in relationship through practicing the Presence of God in all things.

I am the secretary of the board of the FIND School of Spiritual Direction and am active in our local Episcopal church.

I have been married for 51 years, have five grown children and nine grandchildren. I have worked (and am working) as mother, grandmother, community volunteer, elder caregiver, interior design artist and faux painter, Reiki practitioner, and partner in a successful financial management business. (Chaplaincy was my third career!)

I devote my free time to prayer and study, writing, continuing education, painting, cooking and baking, and exercise. I also relish observing the night sky with my husband, Jeff, and the times we go camping together with our two dogs, Cullin, a 14 year old Borgi, and Pippa, a Cavapoo puppy.
